Well looked after and friendly all around, to this common end we are bound

,,Well looked after and friendly all around, to this common end we are bound"

Implementer : Ścinawa Polska Elementary School

Problem: The main issues the school was facing were:

- a school playground with very little in the way of recreational equipment,

- no garden or green space with benches to rest on and outdoor toys for the smallest children,

- the neglected state of the school outbuilding and fencing enclosing the school grounds.

Objective: The goal of the project was to:

1. Motivate children, youth and the local community overall to take more interest in and care of common green spaces;

2. Create a natural garden;

3. Set up additional recreational equipment at the playground;

4. Organise competitions and contests on environmental themes;

5. Organise festivities for the entire community at the school football field;

6. Repairing and renewing the fencing surrounding the school grounds;

7. Restoring the elevation of the school outbuilding.

Project implementation and results: The project involved the following activities:

1. Organising a Children's Day festivity attended by local government authorities, residents of Ścinawa and Ścinawa Polska, project sponsors, pupils and teachers. The event was an opportunity to spotlight the project and present a variety of colourful attractions (e.g. a prize draw, pupil performances). Funds raised at the event went to directly support the project effort.

2. Holding a competition called „My dream garden" and starting work to improve the state of local house gardens - planting tree saplings and ornamental plants (participants were residents of villages known for their beautiful house gardens).

3. Renewing the fencing surrounding the school building and grounds. Parents, pupils, teachers and others willing to give a hand participated.

4. Expanding the playground area, purchasing and setting up missing recreational equipment at the local children's park, setting up rubbish bins and park benches on the school grounds.

5. Restoring the school outhouse.

The results of these activites were the creation of a green space functioning as a rest & recreation area; improving the state of the school grounds and the aesthetic appearance of the select school buildings and the fencing; building and promoting a stronger, more lasting sense of community through common action and opportunities for learning and developing important skills and interests; establishing closer ties with the local authorities as well as organisations participating in the project, including sponsors.
