We are feeling green

„We are feeling green"

Implementer: Kamienna Góra Elementary School

Problem: The area surrounding the school was unattractive and had not been looked after, and for a long time there were insufficient funds to bring about a change. This and increasing concern about the fact that there was no nearby green space that could be used as a recreation area and additionally provide an opportunity to learn about the natural environment and get closer to nature, made it imperative that the school act.

Objective: The main project objectives were to improve the appearance of the school surroundings, foster interest and appreciation for the enviroment, and provide opportunities for pupils and the community at large to learn to work together to achieve a common goal.

Project implementation and results: Project work involved:

1. Preparing and planning out the project [to zdanie przetłumaczyłem, ale bym opuścił, bo jest za ogólne.]

2. An art contest for children entitled „We are feeling green", the object of which was to come up with a plan for how to use and manage the school surroundings

3. Organising a the 3rd Annual Family Festival to raise funds for the project.

4. Running a competition for pupils for the best environmental slogan identifying the project (to be placed on an information board in the green space being developed)

5. Developing 500 m2 of green space on the basis of the competition entries submitted by pupils:

- making initial preparations for the development site - setting up safety barriers,

- running a clean-up campaign called „We carry about our surroundings",

- shaping the surface of the soil - bringing in 20 tonnes of top-soil,

- purchasing and sowing grass,

- rolling the substrate - specialist works,

- repairing and re-painting the fencing,

- planting 150 bushes along the fencing,

- purchasing and setting up 7 benches and 2 rubbish receptacles.

6. A competition for pupils to draw up the rules for using the developed green space.
