Primary School in Rodaki
The Rodaki village is situated in the Klucze parish (Olkusz administrative district) located in Jurassic Park. The Park has an extraordinary magnetism for local people. Protected area status could provide a focus for new initiatives to reconcile the imperatives of revitalizing the local economy and the need to conserve the rich natural and cultural heritage. For many years the school in Rodaki has been gaining partnership for its workings, mainly by ecological programmes and projects realization. Thanks to them the school is still increasing its quality. The small community of Rodaki has seized upon the idea of developing environmental projects as a way of revitalizing their local economy. By putting environmental concern at the heart of local affairs, the community has succeded in maintaining the village's services and breathing new energy into the village. The local school was threatened by closure; instead of accepting its fate, local inhabitants decided to expend it into a tourist information and environmental education centre, thereby saving the school. The Klucze parish provides support for nature education, looking after the land, renewable energy and other activities. It also builds partnerships between local governments and community groups. The school in Rodaki, with the active involvement of teachers, parents and children is developing a model Center for Environmental Education, which serves a variety of functions: educational, cultural, tourist and informational. The work done thus far has offered a chance for the survival of this small school. In 2007 the school in Rodaki got the Local Center Certificate for Environmental Education. The school has chosen new priorities: Ecological path, Regional path, School Programme for health promotion and Safe School Programme. As the results of the regional projects , realized by inhabitants of Rodaki hamlet in cooperation with Association of Jurassic village ,he souvenirs, regional room was founded. The regional room was renovated and a lot of old photos, documents and facilities were gathered- concerned inhabitants of the village. It was also equipped with a bread stove. Within the ecological path the ‘ Festival of the Open Garden' was made. The main aim of it was protection of biodiversity of Jurassic village Rodaki. This project was paid by the National Fund of Environment Protection. As a result of the project the school garden and the area around the school was renovated. Some contests took place:
The school elaborated and published a leaflet to encourage protection of the environment. By participation in the ‘Valuable Energy and water', the school was able to replace regular light bulbs with energy- efficient ones in the entire school building. The next step toward this goal was the modernization of the heating system in the school .Heat regulation valves on the heaters were installed. All old radiators were replaced with new ones and temperature sensors and one-handle washbasin taps were installed. Within the ecological path, the school( in cooperation with Klucze parish office) organized the 'Tree Day' and coordinated the action of planting trees in the area. As the results the number of trees increased for about 1000 trees . The school is environmentally aware , students sort the rubbish into glass, paper and plastic. The ultimate goal is to create a model environmentally-friendly hamlet, which will serve as an example for other such places in the Jurassic Park region.
