Primary School in Czajowice

The Public Primary School in Czajowice is situated in a close neighbourhood of Ojców National Park, very close to the famous Lokietek's Cave, named so after King Ladislas the Short.

The building, which used to be the Czajowice manor house, was rebuilt after a fire in 1925 and has been housing the school since then.

The school, which is is run by "We and the Environment" Society, was founded in the year 2004 to replace the local government school.

Apart from general subjects and English, the school curriculum includes Esperanto (provided by ILEI - Internacia Ligo de Esperantistaj Instruistoj).

The International Cultural Centre and "We and the Environment" Society invite interesting people , not only from Poland, but also from Denmark, Holland, Germany, South Africa, France, Italy, Ukraine, Croatia and Japan.

Our pupils take part in numerous contests. In 2005 they won the third prize in the regional contest "Meeting the World", in 2006, the first prize, in 2007 an honourable mention, and in 2008 a diploma for the best of juniors.

A major event was the contest of regional knowledge for the pupils from Czajowice and local schools held on February 12, 2008 and the "Czajowice dawniej i dziś" (Historical and Modern Czajowice) monograph by Mr Tadeusz Jędrzejowski was a favourable source of information.

The children, the teachers, the local government representatives and the educational authorities representatives twice took part in an international debate upon universal values within ‘European Spring Days' programme and got the certificate from Brussels for contributing into the discussion upon the future of Europe. They participated in the art contests for Poland called "The Colours of Spring", "The Colours of the Sea" and in the regional ecological contest  promoting active leisure and planting trees, all of them organized by the Environmental Protection Society

"The Day of the Tree" was a special event that was held on October 19, 2007, with the children's presentation, the scientific lecture for general public, and the common action of planting trees and shrubs, by the National Park Authorities, Educational Board and Local Government Representatives accompanied by our school community and our friends.

The event followed the summer events, one of which was an Esperanto session, the other one a Grundtvig conference and the third one the Regional Chamber opening, with Czajowice monograph presentation and traditional festivities.

The festivities are important for keeping up the local traditions and to strengthen the social integration, and especially the family ties. Season holidays and family-oriented activities, like the Grandparent's Day, Children, Mother and Father's Day are celebrated by all generations.

For three years now, the children and their parents have been regularly segregating rubbish and taking part in the recyclable waste collecting as a part of the ecological programme.

The Parents' Advisory Body and The Teachers' Board, supported by the Environmental Society and local community promote active environmental care. The promotion's objective is the right cultivation of gardens, fields, orchards, meadows, pastures, and forests.

In 2005 the pupils took part in an all-Poland "Clean Forest" contest, organized by the "Forest Friends' Society" in the categories of Cleaning the Forest Up and Forest Education.

In 2006 and 2007 we took part in an environmental project with partners from Greece, France , and Romania.

On April 30, 2008, we joined the Green Week ecological presentation contest. The motto was "Only one

earth. Don't waste it!" Apart from an honourable mention, we were awarded an opportunity to present our school at the Ecological Festival in Kraków on June 15, 2008 as a Leader of Local Ecological Activity and one of five awarded schools in Poland. We also presented our ecological stand during the regional holiday in Wielka Wieś on June 16, 2008.

In the school year 2006/7, as one of six schools in Poland, the Public Primary School in Czajowice won the Certificate of Schools for Ecological Development for "Aiming to become a working example of sustainable development by means of creating a Local Ecological Activity Centre."

On June 19, 2008, the Public Primary School in Czajowice was awarded the Green Flag.
